Baldwin, the Baldwin family genealogist, has been added to the Milford site.

Sylvester Baldwin, his wife, Sarah Bryan (sister of Alexander Bryan) and six of their seven children left England in 1638 on the ship "Martin." Sylvester died at sea before reaching America. His widow and children decided to remain in America and settled, as planned, in Milford, Connecticut. In July 1872, Charles C. Baldwin, the Baldwin genealogist, published his notes on Sylvester Baldwin in the New England Historical and Genealogical Society Register, which he also published in book form. The Notes have been scanned and linked.

It is worth noting here that in April 1873, a follow-up to the Notes article by the Hon. John D. Baldwin was published in the New England Historical and Genealogical Society Register. In the follow-up, entitled "John Baldwin of Stonington, and Some Other John Baldwins of the Early Colony Times," the author states that the original account of the descendants of Sylvester Baldwin is incomplete when it comes to John Baldwin of Stonington who married in New London, Rebecca Cheeseborough, widow. In Notes, it states this John and Rebecca Baldwin had five children and only one son, Sylvester; however, church and other records show that he had six children including two sons, the other son named Theophilus whose birth is not mentioned in the town records. It is only through this son, Theophilus, that this line has descendants who bear the family name.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctcmilfo/SBaldwinNotes.htm
http://www.newenglandancestors.org/

Milford Genealogy and History Blog - New Content

Subscribe to this blog to know when the Milford site is updated or just to learn more about genealogy and history in Milford, Connecticut.

Today, I added the scanned content of the book Historical Sketches of the Town of Milford, written by George Hare Ford and published in 1914.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctcmilfo/
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctcmilfo/HistoricalSketches.htm
